Rumors: The play is set in New York City in the present at the home of Charley the deputy mayor of New York, and Myra Brock. He and his wife are having a dinner party at their home for their 10th wedding anniversary. The Brocks have invited eight of their closest friends to share in the celebration with them. The first couple to arrive is Ken and Chris Gorman. Upon arrival the Gormans discover that Charley has been injured, but is still alive, Myra is gone, and all the servants are missing. The Gormans also realize no party preparations have been made. Other guests will soon be arriving, so the Gormans must fabricate a story to explain the missing wife and servants and the injured host. They tell varied stories to different guests and become confused as to who knows what, hence the title "Rumors." It all is a play about misunderstandings and different stories about what's going on that night.
